Pembroke High School Weekly Update

Dear PHS Students and Families,

Here is this week's update.  As always, please don't hesitate to see me with any questions on these or any other matters.

While it may be hard to believe, we are approaching the midway point of the first term.  As such, Progress Reports will be issued on October 8.  Please remember that Progress Reports are a snapshot of where your child is in each class at that moment.  The term does not end for another five weeks, which allows plenty of time for students to keep working hard to positively impact their grades.

We have rescheduled our School Picture Day for this coming Friday, October 1.  The brochure that was sent previously is still applicable, as the order code has not changed.  However, I have also attached a new brochure with the correct date for your convenience.  We apologize, once again, for any inconvenience that this rescheduling may have caused.

While some of our clubs are up and running, our Extracurricular Coordinator, Mr. Rix, is meeting with club advisors to organize our annual Extracurricular Fair.  This year, the fair will be held virtually on Monday, October 4 during our Advisory Period. This model worked out well last year, as it allows us to offer the fair to all of our students in grades 9-12.

Last winter, the school committee adopted a user fee structure for all of our clubs and organizations.  The fee schedule is below:

  • Students participating in one club/year - No fee
  • Students participating in a second club/year - $25
  • The family cap is set at $50

Collection of fees will begin next week, with checks made payable to Pembroke High School.

This year our Spirit Week is October 12-15, with the week culminating with our Homecoming Football game on Friday evening and our Homecoming Dance scheduled for Saturday, October 16 from 7-10 p.m.  Fully understanding the challenges associated with hosting an event that is typically attended by 500+ students during these COVID times, this week, I met with members of our Student Council Executive Board to brainstorm ideas on how best to do that. I will be having another meeting with all of our elected officers in grades 9-12 this coming Monday, September 27 to solicit their feedback as well.

As I have said in the forums earlier this year (class assemblies, school committee meetings, PTO meetings) we are committed to doing everything we can to bring these memorable events to our students, and that includes potentially hosting our Homecoming Dance outside on our turf athletic field.  Again, even that solution comes with its own set of challenges, ones for which we will continue to plan.  I will have another update about our Homecoming plans in next Friday's email blast.
