Pembroke High School Weekly Update

Dear PHS Families,

Here is this week's update, reminders, and other important notes regarding PHS matters.

As a reminder, grades for Term 1 will close on Tuesday, Nov. 17, with some teachers using Wednesday, Nov. 18 as a final day to complete Term 1 work for Cohort B students.

Report cards for Term 1 will be issued during Advisory on Tuesday, Nov. 24 (Cohorts A, C) and Wednesday, Nov. 25 (Cohort B).  We will be mailing home report card for students in Cohort D on Nov. 25.

Thank you to those families that submitted their request to have their child change learning models.  The window to submit those requests closed on Wednesday, Nov. 11.

Now that we have those requests, our guidance counselors are working hard to create new schedules for those students moving to a new model.  Our goal is to have all schedules set by the start of Term 2, which begins on Wednesday, Nov. 18.  Counselors have already been in contact with many students and families, and that work will continue on Monday and Tuesday of next week as we work to meet our goal.

As was the case earlier this fall, creating schedules in a Hybrid Model, regardless of Cohort, has many moving parts, so we appreciate your patience while we continue to work through these changes over the next several days.  Parents with questions can contact their child's guidance counselor or me directly.

Parent/Teacher Conferences will be held virtually on Thursday, Dec. 3, and Wednesday, Dec. 9 from 4:30-8:30 each night.  This is a change from what was sent out last week, as one of those original dates coincided with the beginning of Hanukkah.  We apologize to our school community members of the Jewish faith for the oversight.

Soon, the district will be sending out an email with specific instructions for using "Pick-a-Time" to schedule your child's conferences.  These 10-minute conferences will be virtual, and your email confirmation from Pick-a-Time will contain the time of your conference and the link you can use to join the Google Meet.

More specific details of the conferences will be sent as December approaches.

As you may know, the Massachusetts Department of Public Health (Mass DPH) is requiring influenza immunization for all children 6 months of age or older who are attending Massachusetts child care, pre-school, kindergarten, K-12, and colleges and universities.

Students will be expected to have received a flu vaccine by December 31, 2020 for the 2020-2021 influenza season, unless either a medical or religious exemption is provided.

This new flu immunization requirement to enter school in January is in addition to existing vaccine requirements for all those attending child care, preschool, K-12, and colleges and universities in Massachusetts.

Please submit your child’s proof of immunization to our school nurse, Ms. Samantha Turvey, as soon as possible.

As usual, the Wednesday before our Thanksgiving Break is an early release day for all students, regardless of their cohort, with student-dismissal at PHS set for 11:10 a.m. Students in Cohorts B and C, who will be "in-person" that day, will follow this Early Release Bell Schedule.

For students in Cohort A, who will be learning asynchronously "at home," the order of support periods found on the "At-Home" Support Schedule will remain the same, but the times that those periods meet will follow the same times that are on the Early Release Bell Schedule. Students in Cohort A still will be required to check-in during the same mandatory periods as they always are, so students should be sure to note the time changes so that they check-in at the correct times.
