Pembroke High School Weekly Update
Dear PHS Families,
Here is this week's update, reminders, and other important notes regarding PHS matters.
REQUESTS to CHANGE LEARNING MODELS:
As noted last week by both Superintendent Obey and me in separate email blasts, the window to request changes in your child's learning model is now open. To make such a request, please access this Cohort Change Request Form.
It is important to note that the window to make such requests will be closed on Wednesday, November 11. Please be sure to submit your requests before the end of that day.
With the end of Term 1 approaching (11/17), we are hosting two Parent/Teacher Conference evenings in early December:
- Wednesday, Dec. 2 (4:30-8:30 p.m.)
- Thursday, Dec. 10 (4:30-8:30 p.m.)
Soon, the district will be sending out an email with specific instructions for using "Pick-a-Time" to schedule your child's conferences. These 10-minute conferences will be virtual, and your email confirmation from Pick-a-Time will contain the time of your conference and the link you can use to join the Google Meet.
More specific details of the conferences will be sent as December approaches.
SEASONAL FLU IMMUNIZATION REQUIREMENT:
As you may know, the Massachusetts Department of Public Health (Mass DPH) is requiring the influenza immunization for all children 6 months of age or older who are attending Massachusetts child care, pre-school, kindergarten, K-12, and colleges and universities.
Students will be expected to have received a flu vaccine by December 31, 2020 for the 2020-2021 influenza season, unless either a medical or religious exemption is provided.
This new flu immunization requirement to enter school in January is in addition to existing vaccine requirements for all those attending child care, preschool, K-12, and colleges and universities in Massachusetts.
Please submit your child’s proof of immunization to our school nurse, Ms. Samantha Turvey, as soon as possible.
NATIONAL HONOR SOCIETY ELIGIBILITY:
Later today, eligibility invitations for the National Honor Society will be sent to the homes and to the Pembroke Gmail accounts of students with a qualifying GPA (3.7). The letters contain important information about completing a student profile packet and the details of the important, mandatory (virtual) informational meeting. Please remember, students having a qualifying GPA is the first step in the admissions process. The mandatory informational meeting will shed more light on the other requirements. If you have questions, please reach out to the NHS Advisory, Ms. Kniffen, at firstname.lastname@example.org. Best of luck to all of our qualifying students.
NEXT WEEK'S SCHEDULE:
This coming Wednesday (11/11), is Veterans Day, and all schools are closed as we honor those brave men and women that have served our country. As a reminder, we are unable to move the days on which cohorts attend school. As a result, that week's schedule will still contain Remote Monday (11/9), Tuesday (11/10) and Thursday (11/12) as Cohort A days, and Friday (11/13) as a Cohort B day.
To all of the veterans in Pembroke, we thank you for your service.
