Cohort D Progress Reports
Dear Parents and Caregivers,We hope that you enjoyed a well deserved holiday break. This week PCMS and PHS will be sending home Term Two progress reports. As Edgenuity students and parents receive an electronic progress report every Monday, we wanted once again to emphasize the importance of the "Actual Grade." The Actual Grade is the score that will be used for the semester grade and to determine athletic and extracurricular eligibility.Semester One grades in a year-long course will be averaged at the end of the course with Semester Two grades for a Final/Yearly Grade. Semester One grades that reflect course work in a semester course will become part of a student's academic record. We will be reaching out to students and families throughout the next few weeks to adjust any student's course of study for Semester Two that requires additional electives. Please feel free to contact us at any time if you have questions.Thank you,Marybeth Brust Christine MurphyAssistant Superintendent Edgenuity Coordinator -

Last day to change schedule
Dear Cohort D,
Thank you all for your patience and participation with Edgenuity this far!
Your Edgenuity classes should be well underway now that we are three weeks into the program. Tuesday, October 13th, will be the last day to make any schedule changes in Edgenuity. Please contact me by the end of the day Tuesday if you need to add or drop a course.
As noted in Google Meets and Google Classroom earlier this week, we can no longer enroll students in AP courses. This is because it would be extremely difficult to complete the curriculum given the coursework’s breadth and depth and the AP end of course exams’ rigor.
The Edgenuity program is designed to provide full, asynchronous instruction from their pre-recorded instructors. Pembroke teachers are assigned to review the Edgenuity scores and grade the work that cannot be graded by a computer such as labs, essays, projects, and discussions. We welcome student and family feedback as we all learn how to navigate this platform and support you in your learning.
The following teachers are reviewing work in the Edgenuity classes:
Mrs. Brust- Lifetime Fitness
- marybeth.brust@pembrokek12.org
Ms. Elfilali- World Languages
- ouidad.elfilali@pembrokek12.org
Ms. Hall- Social Studies/History
- theresa.hall@pembrokek12.org
Ms. Murphy- Digital Citizenship & Computer Science
- christine.murphy@pembrokek12.org
Ms. Townsend-Science
- karyn.townsend@pembrokek12.org
Mr. Turley- English
- scott.turley@pembrokek12.org
Teachers and administrators will meet as a group on Tuesday, at which point we expect to have more answers to your specific questions. We will share any new developments with you next week.
Enjoy the long weekend, and feel free to contact me if you have a question or concern about Edgenuity.
Sincerely,
Ms. Murphy

Grades 7-8 Electives Update
Good Afternoon-There have been a few questions this week at our parent Q & As and with families regarding middle school electives. When we contracted with Edgenuity, our goal was to replicate a middle school experience as best as possible for our 7th and 8th-grade students. To do that, we had to negotiate three electives that we added to our program on Monday: Lifetime Fitness, Introduction to Art, and Introduction to Computer Science. Language electives were already available, as was a course titled, Online Learning and Digital Citizenship. We would recommend students take a language and then at least one additional course, which would make for a total of six classes per student. However, we are also open to students taking five classes this first semester as they learn to navigate the program with the understanding that during this year, all students would have to take a physical education class. Students could complete a physical education class semester two if they prefer. If you would like to discuss these options or adjust your student's schedule, please reach out to Ms. Christine Murpy: christine.murphy@pembrokek12.org. -

As we are learning more about Massachusetts Edgenuity, we have more information to share with you. Please note, all students are enrolled in their courses for a semester. We will enroll students for semester two, depending on the PPS education plan in January.
Grade 7 & 8:
- All students are enrolled in their grade-appropriate science and social studies classes for semester one.
- All students are enrolled in the elective, Online Learning & Digital Citizenship.
- We are working with students and families to enroll students who would like Spanish or French electives.
Unfortunately, the number of electives offered by MA Edgenuity is minimal at the middle school level. Should we find ourselves requiring MA Edgenuity for semester two, we will explore adding additional options.
Grades 9-12:
- All students are enrolled in a semester of Lifetime Fitness. We will adjust that for students who are not required to take PE.
- All students are enrolled in World History II, US History I, US History II, US History II Honors, or AP US History.
- All students are enrolled in Biology, Honors Biology, Chemistry, or Physics.
- We continue to work our way through matching World Language and elective courses with Edgenuity offerings.
Special Note for AP Students:
- There may be required texts for AP courses. Many of those texts are available here at Pembroke High School.
- Please let us know what you need to progress with your course, and we will assist you in finding those materials.
Please continue to check your school email for important information as well as your Advisory Google Classroom. Meet codes are in your Google Classroom and take place with Ms. Murphy as scheduled:
- Grade 7- Monday @ 10:30 AM *Please note the time change.

Grades 7-8
Dear Cohort D Students and Families-
As we eagerly await the Edgenuity launch, we want to connect with students and families about expectations for our Cohort D learners. I will be your point of contact regarding schedules, technical difficulties, and any other questions that may be of concern to you as you navigate the Edgenuity platform. In listening to your questions during last Friday’s Question and Answer, I have tried to organize information so that you have a better sense of what to expect moving forward.
We will initially load Edgenuity courses in social studies, science, and wellness. As you can imagine, modifying every schedule to meet the confines of Edgenuity requires communication regarding elective choices. Although we have your schedule from the spring, some of the Edgenuity courses may not be a good fit. At our Monday Meet 9/21, we will begin to work through electives, but also feel free to email me if you have specific questions and concerns.
Attendance Requirement: Advisory, English, Mathematics
I will be holding a mandatory advisory period on Monday’s to touch base with you to be sure that you are fully supported. Your English and math courses will serve as the other two mandatory check-ins with Pembroke Public Schools each day.
My email is Christine.Murphy@pembrokek12.org. At this point, I think it is best if you have a question for you to email me and I can return your email or give you a call to discuss next steps. We have a meeting with Edgenuity on Friday, and we are hopeful that our students will be able to start by next Tuesday, 9/22.
Listed below are the courses recommended by Edgenuity that best match our course of study plus potential electives. Please note if there is a problem or concern that you have with the proposed schedule.
I so look forward to working with you this year. Please reach out if you have any questions.
Please see the attached PDF for the live Google Meet code links and please visit the Edgenuity® section of our website for additional information.
Sincerely,
Ms. Murphy

Our goal is to mirror the schedule you selected last spring to the largest extent possible. For some disciplines, no honors option is available. Should we go fully remote or fully in person, we would assign students to the honors section originally selected last spring for those courses that do not provide an honors option.

Virtual Learning Basics
-
WHAT DO I NEED TO KNOW FROM MY STUDENT’S SCHOOL?
- Know when and how often students should log in during the day, or if they need to be online at a specific time for live, teacher-led instruction.
- Make sure your student is aware of the requirements and expectations for virtual learning.
- Find out when teachers will be available for student support and what options exist for extra help.
- Students may need to set aside additional time to complete assignments offline.
-
WHAT ARE SOME TIPS FOR PREPARING MY STUDENT TO WORK AT HOME?
- Designate a comfortable place free from distractions as a work area for your student.
- Offer structure, such as focus time, to increase engagement and promote progress. Ensure your student has access to Wi-Fi and a charged device, such as a laptop, tablet, or mobile phone. *Note: Consult your school or district as appropriate if you need assistance providing a device.
- Periodically check in on students throughout their virtual sessions to make sure they’re actively working and learning, and in case they need additional help
-
AT-HOME SUPPORT FOR VIRTUAL LEARNING
The following questions can help students understand that you’re invested in their education and that even though this form of learning may be different, they’re still expected to work and learn.
Consider asking your student:
- Do you have any questions about what you learned yesterday before getting started today? What did your learning focus on today?
- What did you accomplish today?
- Did you find anything challenging today? If so, how did you overcome the challenge?
How can you apply what you learned, and/or what personal connections can you make to your learning? For all learners—especially younger students—we recommend frequent monitoring and hands-on assistance as needed from those providing the at-home support.
*Note: If you have questions or cannot offer at-home support, reach out to your school or district for guidance. We are here to support you and want to assure you that even though your students may not be going in to school every day, they can still receive a high-quality and engaging education that moves them forward in their learning.
Your partner in education,
Edgenuity
